Summary[edit]

Description

After traversing the verdant pastureland between Waimea and Honoka'a, Hawaii, I arrived at the windward coast, which can first be seen on S.R. 19 near Honoka'a.

Ranching, along with nascent diversified agriculture, is the primary industry in Honokaa and the Hamakua District. Honokaa hosts a Saturday farmers' market, held on Māmane Street, and the Andrade Meat Market, features locally raised and grass fed beef. Ranching in Hawaii has a long history. The only paved road into Waipio Valley is through Honokaa.
