Description
English: 330-PS-9243 (USN 710297) Legion of Merit Presented to Commander in Chief of Royal Netherlands Navy. The Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, right, congratulates Vice Admiral Henri Laubers Proppeh, Commander in Chief of the Royal Netherlands Navy, center, who was presented with the Navy Legion of Merit by the Honorable Thomas S. Gates, Jr., Secretary of the Navy (left). The award was made during ceremonies held in the Secretary’s Office on November 14, 1958. The citation accompanying the award read in part, “For exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services from September 1956 to November 1958 as Commander in Chief of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Throughout this period, Vice Admiral Proffer has cooperated wholeheartedly with representatives of the United States and assisted them greatly in carrying out their missions in the Netherlands.
