Summary[edit]

Description 330-PS-6215 (USN 709025): The WAVES and their escorts pause to have their pictures taken for the folks back home. One of the last visits on their tour was Puerto Rico’s beautiful capitol building which is the home of both houses of the Insular Legislation and the Supreme Court. Built of Georgia marble, this modern structure overlooks both the Atlantic Ocean and San Juan Bay. Left to right: Baker, Myers, Paluzzi, and LaFreniere. Photograph released October 26, 1953. Master Caption: Navy Accepts Women Volunteers for Duty on the High Seas. For the first time in history, the U.S. Navy has accepted volunteers for duty on the high seas from women in the enlisted WAVES.
