Summary[edit]

Description
English: U.S. Army Spc. Heidi Olson, a medic with 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 7th Infantry Division, holds an Afghan infant while in Afghanistan in this undated photo. She said she could see the benefit of having the "Sisters in Arms" program, especially for females coming into an otherwise predominately male atmosphere like the Army. Olson is considered a role model to many younger female soldiers in part for her selfless actions in Afghanistan in the wake of an improvised explosive device attack, actions that helped save a comrade's life. Her deeds were recognized by President Barack Obama during a ceremony held at the White House July 4, 2013. “(She) had to be ordered to stop and get treatment for herself when the medevac aircraft arrived,” the president said. “And for her courage, she was awarded a Bronze Star.” (Courtesy Photo)
