Description 879 of these workhorses were built for Deutsche Bundesbahn between 1957 and 1973. A few are still in freight traffic under the ownership of DB Schenker. Seen passing through Köln Süd on 28 June 2015 is a pair - 140.843 and 140.585 behind. These are scheduled for withdrawal by 2016.
