Deutsch: Schreiben von Marie Krüger, geborene Suerburg (Ehefrau des Komponisten Theodor Krüger, der Oma der umseitig abgebildeten kleinen Ilse:

„An Ilse; Mein liebes Kind! Als ich so klein, wie Du es heute bist, da war's mein Vater, der weit fort gewesen ist. „Es ist nun Krieg“, hat mir die Mutter still erklärt, „Und Vater ist Soldat und trägt ein Schwert!“ Mein liebes Kind! Nun sind wir beide dran, Dein Vater steht im Felde seinen Mann. Und nun fragst Du, wo ich so lange bleibe. Und warum ich Euch nur noch Briefe schreibe. Doch sollt' es einst so werden, daß ich nicht wiederkehr, hoch über allen Erden bin ich dann bei dem Heer Der Kämpfer, die für Deutschland seit je gefallen sind. Du aber, Du sollst leben! - Ich grüße Dich, mein Kind! Dein Papa.“
