Summary[edit]

Description

July 31, 1937

“In late afternoon we were driving toward the mighty city of Los Angeles. We came first to Santa Monica and here we found the Bay Shore Motel, a new place with a row of shiny white cottages. In short order our things were unpacked and our things were inside one. And believe it or not, it had a kitchen – a tile kitchen – all furnished with painted furniture, gas cook stove, pretty dishes, pans – just like at home.

"So Maggie chased me off to a nearby grocery. “We’ll cook some meals,” said she. Night came and Maggie served us a home-cooked meal right in our motel kitchen.”
