Description
English: Allegory of the Christian Congregation. Solenhofen limestone, 1595. Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg. The biblical parable of the guest who is inappropriately dressed for the royal marriage feast and is cast out by the king is set in a church. In the side scenes (Last Supper and Celebration of Communion) the viewer is admonished to participate in a worthy and proper fashion in the Protestant church service. In the background God's hosts destroy the city peopled by those who rejected His invitation. On the right side of the picture Peter and Paul are preaching. The theme here is justification by God's grace through faith.
Deutsch: Allegorie auf die christliche Gemeinde. Solnhofener Kalkstein, 1595.
