Summary[edit]

Description Col. Michael Farrell, commander for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, speaks about the importance of hands-on training during the 2015 Terramoto exercise Aug. 18, 2015, at the Corps’ Bryte Yard facility in West Sacramento, Calif. “I can’t overstate the value this training represents for the Corps of Engineers,” said Farrell. “This is probably one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever have a chance to do and the types of people that step into this environment are the pride of the Corps. When crisis strikes and the impacted community see someone in a white shirt with a red castle on it, they breathe a sigh of relief because of the skills you’re developing today.” The readiness exercise provided a training opportunity for project response teams, made up of Corps’ volunteers from various career fields, to practice several kinds of emergency missions including removing debris or assessing infrastructures in densely populated areas of Southern California immediately following a simulated 7.8-magnitude earthquake occurring along the San Andreas Fault.
