Description 127-GW-1627-138473: Occupation of Japan, 1945. Guns that defended Japan, not successfully, are inspected by Marine Correspondent Sergeant Paul G. Sturges attached to the 5th Marine Division in Sasebo. These guns formed part of the city’s defenses ring near the harbor. Photographed by TSgt Byrd Ferneyhough, September 1945. Official U.S. Marine Corps Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2016/10/25).
