Summary[edit]

Description Sixty bushels of oyster shell, delivered by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, arrive at the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers April 2, 2012. Norfolk District partnered with fourth graders from Virginia Beach’s Seatack Elementary School in 2011 to grow baby oysters in floats and then, this spring, create an oyster reef at historic Fort Norfolk, where the Norfolk District is located. The reef is an effort to restore the oyster population and improve the health of the Elizabeth River and the Chesapeake Bay. (U.S. Army photo/Kerry Solan)
