Summary[edit]

Description FOLSOM, Calif. – Construction of the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway continues here Jan. 20, part of the Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project between the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District to reduce flood risk for the Sacramento area. The spillway will allow for slower and safer water releases from Folsom Lake into the American River in high water. The Sacramento District completed the Folsom Lake Crossing Bridge across the river (shown at bottom) in 2009, replacing the road atop the dam closed for security concerns in 2003.
