THE FEEDING OF INFANTS 261 to the nature of the food; they represent the extreme ofwhat a child can take rather than indicate what every childought to have. Breakfast, 7 to 8 A. M.—(1) A small portion of beefsteak, withoatmeal, hominy grits, wheaten grits, cornmeal or other cereal por-ridge, and with plenty of milk; or (2) A soft-boiled egg, bread and butterand a glass of milk. Second Meal, 11 A. M.—(1) A glass of milk with bread and butteror with a soda or other biscuit; or (2) Bread and milk; or (3) Chickenor mutton broth. Dinner, 2 P. M.—Roasted fowl, mutton or beef, cut fine; mashedbaked potato with butter or dish-gravy on it; bread and butter. Asdessert, tapioca, sago or rice pudding, junket or fresh or stewed fruitsin small quantity, including raspberries, strawberries, grapes freedfrom the seeds, peaches, juice of oranges, and stewed apples.
