| Description |
Tekiya is a sometimes slightly pejorative term for street vendors in Japan. They have a reputation as hucksters and selling overpriced crap, and in addition to that being affiliated with the yakuza. They are also rumored to largely consist of Zainichi Koreans, a group of people still at the receiving end of various forms of discrimination in Japan today. This series of pictures were taken in the Maruyama Park behind Yasaka Jinja in Gion, Kyoto.
