Summary[edit]

Description
English: Soldiers from Foxtrot “Jigsaw” Company, 1st Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment, New York National Guard, Task Force Falcon, react to a medical evacuation request April 28 at Combat Outpost Shukvani in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Medical evacuation requests come through the operations room, manned day and night by "dispatchers" who interpret the information and locate the point of injury. Severity of injury comes in three tiers: Category A, or "life, limb or eyesight," the most serious cases requiring launch within 15 minutes; Category B, or broken bones and similar injuries, requiring mission completion within two hours; and Category C, for the least serious ailments requiring mission completion within twelve hours. Jigsaw shares medical evacuation responsibilities in the Helmand province with a British emergency response team's "flying Role 2 hospital," and an Air Force search and rescue asset.
