Summary[edit]
Description'Eco' sculpture at new Queen's University library - geograph.org.uk - 1478004.jpg |
English: 'Eco' sculpture at new Queen's University library The hollow layered sculpture by the Breton artist Mark Didou has two heads, one upside down supporting the other, or maybe the lower one reflects the upper. Going close to the mouth I thought I heard water flowing through, but I learnt later that the sounds are produced electronically. Magnetic Resonance Imaging is one of the influences for the design.
[Addition 14 Oct 2009] The sculpture and the library will be inaugurated on 15th October 2009. For an account describing how "Eco" came to be placed there, and an account of problems when an earlier version of Eco was on exhibition outside Qheen's, see an article by Dr Silvia Casini in CIRCA arts magazine http://www.recirca.com/cgi-bin/mysql/show_item.cgi?post_id=5026&type=articles&ps=publish |
