Summary[edit]
Description"Rather Than Send Them to St Ives" - geograph.org.uk - 47323.jpg |
English: "Rather Than Send Them to St Ives" This is a shot of the 15-century bridge in St Ives. Its most notable feature is the Chapel in the middle; this is one of only four surviving medieval bridge chapels in England. Before WW2 it had a second storey which is now gone. St Ives formerly of Huntingdonshire (now Cambs) is proud of its connections with Oliver Cromwell names of Shops and Pubs alluding to him are dotted all over the town. Could this be why Rupert Brook was so disparaging about the place? See http://www.poetsgraves.co.uk/Classic%20Poems/Brooke/grantchester.htm |
