Summary[edit]

Description

In the 1880’s “ice cream parlors” became popular, and in the early 1900’s stand alone “soda fountains” became profitable. By the early 1920’s when the nation was under Prohibition, almost every drugstore had a soda fountain selling phosphate sodas and ice cream. Only men had socialized in bars, but the new “soda fountains” became a social outlet for women and children as well.
