The Lagenwaard mill originally drained the Bospolder north of Leiderdorp aan de Does and was therefore called Bosmolen at that time. Bospolder covers approximately 145 hectares. and a lifting height of 1.70 m. The mill was built in 1704 by Arend van der Spelt, after its predecessor had burned down in 1703. The mill was later equipped with a centrifugal pump which pumped out the polder water until 1955. In 1955 a power plant was built for diesel fuel, making the mill redundant. In 1963, the somewhat dilapidated mill became the property of the municipality of Leiderdorp, which restored the mill in 1965.

In September 2003, the mill (lower tower, upper chamber and tail) was moved to a new location in the Lagenwaard polder. There used to be a mill here. After the transfer of the mill, ownership passes to the Rijnlandse Molenstichting.

On March 27, 2004, the mill will supply water again for the first time in almost 50 years. On May 15, 2004, the mill was officially put into operation and is used as an auxiliary pump during periods of increased water inflow. The name "Bosmolen" obviously no longer applies. Due to the polder that is currently draining, the mill is called the Lagenwaard mill (Rijnland Water Board).
