Robert Gould Shaw memorial, created in the 1840s. Brownstone enclosure with ancient classical marble insert and an added 1860s bronze plaque commemorating his grandson Col. Robert Gould Shaw, officer of the Civil War 54th Regiment of African-American soldiers. Monument designed by architect Hammatt

Billings and executed by sculptor Alpheus Cary. Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
