Title
"A Freak of the Flood" 1913 flood photograph
Description
A black and white stereoscopic image of a street corner in Columbus, where a building was washed on its side into the middle of the street. The 1913 flood occurred when Ohio received a heavy downpour that flooded many Ohio rivers, including the Scioto river, and the levees failed. In Columbus, more than five inches of rain fell in 24 hours beginning on March 24, 1913. Combined with a heavy winter snowfall, it was too much for the levees. In Columbus, 96 people died as a result of the flood.
