Scope | Nominated as the most valued image on Commons within the scope: Group of Aphrodite, Pan and Eros, NAMA Athens, 3335 |
Used in | Sandale |
Reason | The best in scope IMO. Other pictures in the category are of bad quality. The real background is now dirty, and the black one emphasize the details IMO. This is an unique work, found in Delos, june 20, 1904, in the "Establishment of Poseidonasts of Berytos", by French archaeologists. It dates from the 2nd c. BCE. The pedestal is original, it gives the name of the owner of this statue. Aphrodite is trying to protect her virtue with her sandal, and with the help of Eros, against the assault of Pan. Please note that her defence is not so furious... Pictures of works of art in museums are really very, very difficult to take. It is not known enough in "Commons"... Geocode in the "institution template". -- Jebulon (talk) |
