Description

Derek's handler, Henry Marsili wrote this letter to Mrs. Dunn asking if he might be permitted to keep Derek following his discharge.

"Dear Mrs. Dunn: You're probably surprised or confused to who the writer of this letter is. Well let me introduce myself. The name is Marsili but that doesn't mean much. I've handled "Derrek" your dog for about two years. I already wrote to your husband Sgt. Dunn, but he isn't at Fort Jackson any longer. I guess he was in combat. I hope he returns safely. The war is over and I'll be going home soon as your..."
