Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Tracking drills. We not only fire all day but we’ve started firing at night.

They brought our search light battery over last week so we now attempt to locae the plane and register a few hits on the sleeve at night. Of course the firing is very sporadic, as the majority of the night is spent beating off organized attacks of mosquitoes. I don’t think a Stuka dive bomber has anything on a Hilt Head mosquito. In fact the mosquitoe could give the Stuka first dive and still bring it down.

I don’t know whether you’ve ever had any experience with this type of mosquito or not, but I’ve seen them here the size of a bumble bee. They not only make the night unbearable, but during the day their swarms darken the sun.

The camp is located about a mile and a half from the beach, where we have our guns set up. A narrow, oyster shell road, bordered on either side by swamp, leads from the barracks to the gun emplacements, and if you think the charge of the Light"
