English: "Will be accepted remains to be seen, but I should know by November.
Not much recreation out here for an enlisted man. As usual decent people will have nothing to do with you so consequently I don’t go ashore, unless it’s to play ball, over once a month. When I do go ashore it’s only because the wretched food served on board here drives me to a restaurant in an attempt to keep from dying of starvation, but in spite of the rotten food, and the small amount of it I eat, I’ve put on weight. I weight 198 now. It can’t be the food so it must be the salt air. All for the present, Love, Ed" From the Edward L.
