English: "And I think we will be, due to the fact we will have officers living in the same barracks with us, there might even be steam heat. Think what a luxury that will be. A real honest to goodness radiator that burns your backside when you sit on it. I think I’ll pick out a nice comfortable one and sit on it every available opportunity until I thaw out.
The latest news, on the exodus for Cuba, is January 15, but when that date rolls around it will probably find us still inhabiting Parris Island or Hilton Head. Things here are a good bit of a mess. We have men a plenty but no equipment. The housing facilities are not adequate, and the majority of the troops live in tents. The mess hall, and galley were built to accommodate some seven hundred men, but at the present writing they are attempting to feed about sixteen hundred-chaos! The stoves are never cold and the so called cooks work in twenty-four hour shifts." From the Edward L.
