English: "I changed the windage again, but couldn’t get back in the black until the 9th and 10th shots for a total of 44. The reason I mention this range is because it happens to be my best one and the day before I fired for record I had two “possible”, 50 out of 50. If I could have had that 50 record day, instead of the 44, it would have meant $5 a month in lieu of the $3 I get now. So much for that.
The latest information I can get, in regard to our departure for Cuba, is the 15th of January, but the report came out yesterday that “F” returns to Hilton Head, for further collection of ballistic data, December the 9th. God knows how long we’ll stay there, but I can’t think of a more horrible place to spend Christmas. For the present, and from the looks of things, for the duration of our tour of duty at Parris Island, we are living in tents.
