English: Subika - 16th century Classical Meitei language illustrated manuscript text - in traditional Meetei Mayek writing system - Meitei astronomy & cosmology of Kangleipak civilisation state
The Subika was composed and written during the reign of Meitei King Khagemba of Manipur in the period 1597-1652 C.E. While neither the author nor the scribe of the text is known, it deals with astronomy and cosmology. The Subika was often consulted by the royal family before any significant undertaking or event such as war, marriage or festivities. It was also originally owned by the royal family but passed on to the royal scholars. Such was the belief in and the power of this text that to this day, people in Kangleipak (Manipur) regard its predictions as utterly reliable. Both the language and the script of this significant composition are Meitei. A descendant of the pandits, Bobby Wahengam, donated the manuscript to the Manipur State Archives. The manuscript is made of agurbak (agarbak / agorbak) or the bark of the aloe tree and contains 47 folios.ꯃꯤꯇꯩ ꯂꯣꯟ: ꯁꯨꯕꯤꯀꯥ ꯑꯁꯤ ꯀꯪꯂꯩꯄꯥꯛ ꯂꯝꯗꯝꯒꯤ ꯃꯤꯇꯩ / ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯀꯥꯡꯂꯨꯞꯀꯤ ꯑꯔꯤꯕ ꯈꯨꯠꯏ ꯂꯥꯏꯔꯤꯛ ꯄꯨꯌꯥ ꯑꯃꯅꯤ ꯫ |

[edit]This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |
