Guiacurú people crossing river

Summary[edit]

Description
English: A group of Guaycurús (an equestrian people of South America) are crossing a river with their horses. Women are conveying children in improvised boats, called pelotas in Portuguese. This is a crop of a larger drawing, by an unknown artist, in the National Library of Brazil. The manuscript concerned the scientific expedition of Dr Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira through (inter alia) the Mato Grosso, 1783-1792.
A catalogue and description by Valle Cabral, Alfredo de (1876) appears in Annaes da Bibliotheca Nacional do Rio Janeiro (vol. III) at pages 350-1 under the heading "A passagem de um rio pelos indigenas Guaycurús".
