A note on copyright: The Swiss copyright on Mittelholzer's works expired at the end of 1987, since Switzerland had a copyright term of 50 years after the death of the author until 1993, and the extension to 70 years made in 1993 did not restore already expired copyrights. Thus, Mittelholzer's works were in the public domain in their source country (Switzerland) on the URAA date (January 1, 1996) which is crucial for the public domain status in the U.S.

English: Walter Mittelholzer (April 2, 1894 in St. Gallen – May 9, 1937 in Styria) was a Swiss aviation pioneer. He was active as a pilot, photographer, travel writer, and also as one of the first aviation entrepreneurs.
