Welcome to my Wikimedia page[edit]

This is not an encyclopedia page or a Wikimedia Commons page but a user-page made to describe the author. My real name is Jim Barbe and I have lived in St. Marys since 1993 (with the exception of 1.5 years in Bangor, WA with the Navy).

I began my career with the US Navy in 1987. I completed 20 Years and 20 Strategic Deterrent Patrols in the US Naval Submarine Force in 2007. Commands that I was attached to include:

- Six years at Trident Training Facility, Kingsbay GA, as a Naval Instructor teaching new technicians theory, operation, and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment for 3 years and 3 years conducting refresher and hands-on training to fleet sailors between their deployments. - USS Von Steuben (SSBN 632)(Blue) – 4 and a half years (Charleston SC). One of the original “41 for Freedom” submarines, these nuclear-powered submarines were armed with long-range submarine-launched ballistic missiles to create a deterrent force preventing nuclear war with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. - USS West Virginia (SSBN 736)(Gold) – 4 years. My first Trident or Ohio-class submarine, the largest type of submarine ever constructed for the U.S. Navy. Onboard West Virginia I personally assisted in the launch for 4 Trident D-5 Test Missiles. - USS Louisiana (SSBN 743)(Gold) – 3 years. My last command while in the Navy. This submarine changed homeports while I was onboard from Kingsbay GA to Bangor WA. After one year in Washington State I retired from the Navy and moved back to Saint Marys, GA.

While in the Navy I completed my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Career Training and Adult Education. I started working for the University of Georgia as an Energy Educator in 2007 in which I planed, developed and delivered consumer educational programs related to energy conservation and to the natural gas industry. I worked with the University for over a year and received the following four awards:

Educational Publication Award, State Winner 2008 Mary W. Wells Memorial Diversity Award, State Co-winner 2008 Community Partnership Award, State Co-winner 2008 Extension Housing Outreach Award, State Co-winner 2008

After the University of Georgia I joined BAE Systems in Saint Marys, GA.
