Ludwig I. von Bayern

English: Ludwig I (or Louis I, which is the French form of his name) (August 25 1786, Strasbourg – February 29, 1868, Nice) was king of Bavaria from 1825 until the 1848 revolutions in the German states. Ludwig patronised the arts as principal of many neoclassical buildings, especially in Munich, and as fanatic collector. Among others he ordered to erect were the Walhalla temple, the en:Glyptothek, the en:Alte Pinakothek and the en:Neue Pinakothek. He was the founder of the Schönheitengalerie (de:Schönheitengalerie), a collection of originally 36 beauties you once could meet in the streets of Munich. He had to resign because of his love affair with Lola Montez

Deutsch: Ludwig I., König von Bayern (*25. August 1786 in Straßburg; † 29. Februar 1868 in Nizza) war ein deutscher Fürst aus dem Geschlecht der Wittelsbacher. Er folgte seinem Vater Maximilian I., König von Bayern nach dessen Tod im Jahre 1825 auf den bayerischen Thron nach und dankte im Revolutionsjahr 1848 zugunsten seines Sohnes Maximilian II. ab. Unter Ludwig I wurde München zu einer weit beachteten Stadt der Kunst.
