Seal of the United States en: Federal Emergency Management Agency from when it was an independent agency before 2003. From The Seal of the Federal Emergency Management Agency: Description: On a medium blue disc enclosed by a dark blue band rimmed gold and inscribed FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY in white letters, an eagle and shield as on the Coat of Arms of the Untied States, the eagle holding in his beak the dexter end of a scroll bearing the motto PACE AC BELLO MERITA in black letters, the scroll arched above and around a dark blue disc rimmed white and charged with a white equilateral triangle. Symbolism: The eagle and shield, adapted from the Great Seal of the United States, representing vigilance and preparedness. The light blue color of the background has a historical association with the Agency and its components. The white triangle represents civil defense. The banner motto, PACE AC BELLO MERITA, means "Service in Peace and War," indicating the Agency's responsibility in all types of emergencies: natural or man-made. The dark blue of the designation band refers to the federal authority and the responsibility of the agency. The logo was introduced by the agency in 1981. |
