Summary[edit]
Photo from Vogue Magazine, 1 May 1917: Loraine Wyman holding an Appalachian dulcimer. Perhaps the earliest widely published photo of this instrument.
In the collection of the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, this photograph is attributed to Eugene Hutchinson, born in Danville, Virginia, and the place it was taken as Chicago [1] archive copy at the Wayback Machine. The museum's copy derives from the collection of the photographer Paul Burty Haviland. The date is given as anything from 1903 to 1914; Wyman was away in France until about 1909, which further restricts the possible date.
