why is there an edit war over this? The description clearly says "UN subregion", so the map should show the UN subregion. If somebody wants to highlight some or any other region, let them upload a different map instead of messing up other people's uploads. Content disputes go to article talkpages and are not to be fought out via revert wars at wikimedia commons. --Dbachmann (talk) 08:56, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why must it adhere to the "UN subregion" definition? Removing Iran will cause a lot of problems/confusion on other pages linking to the Western Asia page. Please re-include it, even if it means changing the description. I choose not to revert your edit and am politely asking you on here, as an unregistered user. I take the risk of having my IP address appear here for the sake of it. Thank you. 174.17.25.26 17:31, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Because the uploader declared this to be the purpose of the file. If you want to have a different file, that's fine, but don't mess with other people's work for now. Also, you will find people have very little patience with accounts called stuff like "Guardian of Iran" embarking on edit warring campaigns on commons changing maps without discussion. This is the image repository page. If you have a point to make, upload your own map, then take the two maps to Wikipedia and seek editor consensus on which map should be used. If you do not take this approach of above-board discussion on content, your point of view will not be taken seriously. If you are unhappy with how the UN defines world regions, complain to the UN or something, but don't take your frustration here.

I litterally could not care less if Iran "is" in "Western", "Southwestern" "South-Central" or any other part of Asia, that's pure semantics/definition and with no real bearing on anything. Probably Iran is just too big, being one of the world's major countries area-wise, it's like arguing whether Russia "is" in Eastern Europe, Western, Central, West-Central, Northern or Northeastern Asia. If you have references on such a debate, by all means draw maps to illustrate the debate, but it's certainly no excuse to go edit-warring. --Dbachmann (talk) 10:44, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sinai Peninsula (Egypt)[edit]

Per en:Western Asia, en:Egypt and File:Western Asia 2.png, en:Sinai Peninsula is part of Western Asia. However, this orthographic projection map here, don't include the peninsula as part of Western Asia. However, File:Asia_(orthographic_projection).svg includes Sinai Peninsula as part of Asia. --Nafsadh (talk) 16:45, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If it goes by national boundaries, then Constantinople will be included, but the Sinai won't, and there isn't much that can be done about it while respecting such national boundaries. Other maps may ignore national boundaries... AnonMoos (talk) 13:57, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
