Name of the school[edit]

I had the following exchange with UW Special Collections over the name of the school:

JM January 01, 2019:

According to http://www.historylink.org/File/10539 (Seattle Public Schools, 1862-2000: Lafayette Elementary School, excerpted from Building for Learning: Seattle Public School Histories, 1862-2000 by Nile Thompson and Carolyn J. Marr, published 2002 by Seattle Public Schools) the school was variously known as the Brick School, West Seattle Central School, or (after 1902, when high school classes were added) West Seattle Grammar and High School. They don't record this building being known as "West Seattle High School".

Librarian January 03, 2019:

You're right, this building was never called West Seattle High School. See Dorpat's article: https://pauldorpat.com/2013/08/31/seattle-now-then-west-seattle-school/

He refers to it as the West Seattle School and that name is verified by checking the Polk's between 1901 and 1909. I don't know where Carolyn Marr got the other name "West Seattle Central School" from....
