Solar system escape velocity[edit]

The blue graph seems to be incorrect. The formula

√(2 * 6.67384e-11 * 1.98892e30 / (r * 149597870700)) / 1000 = 42.1259 / √r

for the escape velocity in km/s with r the distance to the sun in AU gives

1 AU: 42.1 km/s
2 AU: 29.8 km/s
3 AU: 24.3 km/s
4 AU: 21.1 km/s
5 AU: 18.8 km/s
10 AU: 13.3 km/s
15 AU: 10.9 km/s
20 AU: 9.4 km/s
25 AU: 8.4 km/s
30 AU: 7.7 km/s
35 AU: 7.1 km/s
40 AU: 6.7 km/s

Thanks. That may be so, but since the data was taken from the graph at the NASA site, I am rather reluctant to change it without further evidence from an equally or more reliable source. (Other factors besides r² losses may affect it.) Cheers, cmglee (talk) 18:29, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Cmglee is this Stackexchange Q&A enough as source? https://space.stackexchange.com/questions/10346 — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.69.124.121 (talk) 12:54, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Stackexchange (by itself) is not considered a reputable source, but I'll see what references I can glean from that page. Cheers, cmɢʟeeτaʟκ 18:44, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
