As someone who has been studying Arabic for several years now, I wish to point out that despite the New York Times description of the contents of the page in this image, the word "opium" is mentioned nowhere on it. The headlines read as follows:

  • Barak Slaughters a Muslim
  • Taliban Proceed in Destruction of Idols
  • Taliban Eradicate Cultivation of Hashish
  • Russian and Indian Weapons Go to Opposition
  • Fatwa of Shaykh Hamud al-Uqla Regarding Destruction of Idols

The document is dated Muharram of the Islamic year 1422, and does indeed have the stamp of the "Qa'ida Media Committee".

I believe the mention of Hamud al-Uqla or Hamoud al Aqla al Shuebi as his name is written on the English Wikipedia, is important. The headline in question appears to reference the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas, and obeying the fatwa that Hamud al-Uqla wrote endorsing said destruction (and supporting the Taliban regime) is mentioned on his EN WP biography as being 'consistently listed as [a factor] favoring the continued detention of various Guantanamo detainees". 66.86.115.196 06:11, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
