In addition there are about 7,000 nuclear weapons that are in storage, waiting to be dismantled. The US has built about 66,500 warheads, and about 59,000 have been disassembled, but has stored about 20,000 plutonium cores ("pits") from the warheads.

Bad Link[edit]

Can we try to get a second choice? I get a 404 error when I try to see the source. --Soakologist

BAS has redone their site recently. Hopefully they will eventually fix their links. --24.147.86.187 04:57, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Link has been updated. --24.147.86.187 15:27, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update translations to match "warheads" instead of "weapons"?[edit]

I've gotten some translations from contributors on /r/translator on Reddit - they say "Number of Nuclear Warheads" or "Number of Warheads" instead of "Number of Weapons", there is a technical difference.
