Subject:Tom Cruise image request for Wikipedia

Hello, I am one of the administrators at Wikipedia, the online free encyclopedia, and I was wondering if we could possibly use an image or two from your "Tom Cruise on MTV Live" set (http://flickr.com/photos/mtvlive/sets/72157610962063736/) for the article on the actor and possibly others. Right now Wikipedia is one of the top ten most-viewed websites on the Internet, and it is possible that thousands of people could see your image(s) over time. Additionally, we would give you the credit on the image's page and include a link back to your Flickr page (if you wish), which would drive more viewers to your profile. If you give us permission, I would upload the image for use on the page en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Cruise (if you look at the link, you can see that your image(s) would be a better replacement for the one in the infobox) and possibly other articles (including the article about the recent film "Tropic Thunder"). I was wondering if we could use "MTV Live: Tom Cruise - 010" (http://flickr.com/photos/mtvlive/3095107775/in/set-72157610962063736/) and/or "MTV Live: Tom Cruise - 017" (http://flickr.com/photos/mtvlive/3095110455/in/set-72157610962063736/).

We can only use your image(s) if you are willing to grant permission for it to fall under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_the_GFDL), the Creative Commons Attribution (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/), or the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/). It would be your choice of how you want your image(s) covered, so if you do want to allow the use of the image, take a look at the three licenses. The pages state that anyone will have the right to share and, where appropriate, to update your image(s), while giving you credit. Additionally, the articles state that other people might crop the image further, but you would still have your name and Flickr account as the author of the image. For example, it would look something like en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Samuel_L._Jackson_%282006_Pebble_Beach%29.jpg

Let me know if the image(s) can be used for the free encyclopedia whenever it is convenient for you. If you do choose so, please reply back saying "I agree to release the image "MTV Live: Tom Cruise - 010" and/or "MTV Live: Tom Cruise - 017" under the terms of the GFDL license/Creative Commons Attribution/Creative Commons Attribution Sharealike" (whichever one of the three licenses you want to pick). If you have any questions, message me back and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks, and great job on the pictures.

(By the way, just so you don't think this is some kind of scam or something, you can see a gallery of the many pictures I have got permission for from other Flickr users to use the images on Wikipedia here: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Nehrams2020/Image_Permissions)

Hello there

I'm sorry it took us so long to get back to you. My name is Will and I work in the digital team at MTV Canada.

"I agree to release the image "MTV Live: Tom Cruise - 010" and "MTV Live: Tom Cruise - 017" under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Sharealike"

You're welcome to use any of the images in the set under this licence. Is it possible that you credit MTV Live (and not flickr) for the photo, linking it to mtv.ca/live?

I've updated our Flickr to reflect the Creative Commons licence.

Many thanks

Will
