Date of photograph[edit]
A date for this portrait of Thor Heyerdahl is needed. From his appearance here, relative to his appearance in other photos with dates, I'd guess the photo was taken around 1960, but possibly 5 to 8 years later. Although this photo was used on a NASA Web page, it is most likely not a NASA photo and was likely not taken by a U.S. government employee in the course of his or her official duties. It may have been lifted from one of Heyerdahl's books, or it may have been taken by a press photographer after the Ra II expedition.
