The Big Duck is also known as the Long Island Duck. It originally sold ducks and duck eggs. Hence it is the origin of the term "duck" for any commercial architecture which refers to the product sold. The term duck is also loosely applied to any building which represents some animal or object to present a whimsical impression, without regard to the product being sold. Should one correct a person in this loose usage, or is the person justified in doing so?
