Dongding Island[edit]

I would like to request that this map be re-created or modified. Because of the way that the boundary is drawn in the waters between the ROC's Kinmen County and the PRC's Longhai City, it makes it appear (at least to my eyes and in my subjective opinion) that Dongding Island is administered by the People's Republic of China. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:28, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

According to my present understanding, Dongding Island's surrounding oceanic territory zone may be separated from that of the oceanic territory zone of the rest of Kinmen County. I don't know exactly how this would affect the map drawing. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 22:51, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The newly uploaded form of this map seems to solve this problem. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 02:38, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dadan and Erdan[edit]

The PRC-ROC water boundary is seemingly poorly drawn in this map (the 'Taiwan relief location map') which causes Dadan Island and Erdan Island to fall outside the territory of the ROC. Here is a map (right-hand side of the page) with a better drawn boundary:

This map (below) draws no water boundary, but it includes Dadan and Erdan as part of the ROC:

Here's one possible solution to the problems I have raised with both Dongding Island and Dadan & Erdan- just don't draw a line in the waters on the western side of Kinmen County, like in this map (below- "Taiwan Strait.png") :

If a new version of the 'Taiwan relief location map' that includes all the territory under the control of the ROC as part of the ROC can be produced quickly, then it could replace this map today. But if a new map can't be produced quickly due to technical problems or arguments about consensus on the territorial waters etc of Taiwan, then I think that this version of the 'Taiwan relief location map' map needs to be deleted as soon as possible because (as far as I know) it doesn't reflect any of the known historical or current situations in the area. Once a consensus about the new map is reached, then it will be produced and uploaded. As it stands, this map is used throughout Wikipedia and is essentially an unintentional source of misinformation. I used Microsoft Paint to remove two of the dashes in the dotted line in the maritime boundary. The line now looks similar to that seen in 'Taiwan Strait.png'. This edit may not have fully solved the problem, but it is definitely much better than it was previously from my perspective. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:34, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Based on 金門地區限制(禁止)水域圖 & 臺灣歷史地圖 增訂版, 2018年2月, 臺灣史博物館 isbn 978-986-05-5274-4 page 158, I proposed removal of three dashes (markers of the approximate PRC/ROC maritime boundary) which seemed to put Dadan Island, Erdan Island and Binlang Islet (檳榔嶼) outside the territory of Kinmen County, Taiwan/ROC. This is not the optimal form of the map, but is merely a quick removal of incorrect information. In the optimal situation, the line needs to be redrawn in the correct location. I don't have the technical skill to produce such a map. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 02:07, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dotted line boundary- Dongyin[edit]

The dotted-line boundary doesn't reach Dongyin like in the File:Nationalist China - administrative divisons. LOC 2007633622.jpg map. I propose extending the line around Dongyin. The situation has been acknowledged as "not ideal for Dongyin" elsewhere ([1]).
