Identification[edit]

I don't believe these are Shetlands.

  • The fleece is too long and hairy.
  • The horns are quite wrong: Shetland ewes do not usually have horns at all, and even castrated male horns are usually much more robust than these.
  • The face shape of the second animal seems wrong: it's too long and narrow.
  • The web page of Church Farm Rare Breed Centre does not list Shetlands as one of their breeds. It does list two other possible candidates, the Boreray and the North Ronaldsay, though these don't really look right either.
  • The information about the Shetland on the original page is garbled, suggesting some confusion along the way.
