I was wondering about this beatiful bird that I saw cornered by the fence in my new yard at the house I just got in an old section of town. I had a blue and gold macaw for years that I raised as a baby to a nice and funny adult. I saw this bird that was very beautiful and scared and with purplish and green irredscence in the sunlight and red/orangish eyes and a white stripe over it's bill at the top of the bill and orange feet. I had never seen a bird like it...not small nor large. I put out my arm and said "up, up" like I did with my macaw and he got on my arm. He wanted to snuggle and be away from the little dogs a few feet away that scared him. He took flight when they smapped at him and went a couple houses away but couldn't seem to fly very well. I went and found him by another fence and said again, "up, up" and he againd got on my arm. I put him in a box and created holes to see out of and called a friend who manages the pet store where I got my macaw and told him what happened and said to him that this bird seems to be domesticated and wings clipped., He told me he didn't know what to do and to contact him tomorrow and see. I found a bigger box to make the little fellow cumfy and gave him a dish of water and grain bread which he gratefully ate, and drank, and left the top open with a grate over the top and a sheet to make him feel cozy. So I came to this site on the net and found out that this wonderful, gorgeous bird is a "rock dove". I also found that it is the nice name for a common pigeon, and that he/she is probably a baby, and doesn't know about being afraid of me. I seem to have a pet Rock Dove now. How strange. But he's no less a beautiful and sweet bird that only wants love just like my macaw did and I gave that unconditionally.
