Tschaikowski

Everywhere on Wikipdia, I've encountered this pic of Tschaikowski. In its caption it is usually stated that photo shows T. in the year 1875. However, this is obviously wrong, T. was aged 35 in this year, the photo shows a very old T., probably in his last years.

The statement that this pic was shot in 1875 can already be found in the description of the first version of this file on WikiCommons. It's also stated that this picture (and the information of its date of origin) comes from a czech site. Nor is this version of the pic shown on this site (the Wiki version is obviously digitally resized and mirrored), neither is the information of it's origin or the photographer. Perhaps the source site was changed?

I just do not know the Wiki rules for using pics like this, lacking correct information of origin. But I allow myself to at least correct the obviously incorrect date. --Sodala (talk) 08:24, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

After some more research, I was able to find a book that could answer the questions stated in my first post: The Tchaikovsky Handbook. A guide to the man and his music. In this book, allegedly all known photographs and references to T. are listed. It should be possible to find the lacking information there. Unfortunately, I could not find a copy of it in a library catalogue nearby my neighbourhood. Perhaps someone else can find it and verify the origin of this photo.--Sodala (talk) 08:46, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
