I found it confusing, whether this charts show absolute values or CO2 emissions. As far as I understand, it shows the number of particle per million as measured at Mauna Loa Observatory, Hawaii. So to decide whether it gives an indication about amount of emissions or amount in the atmosphere, one would have to know the exchange rate of greenhouse gas particles from the atmosphere to the air surrounding the Mauna Loa Observatory set in context to the exchange rate of air from regions where the greenhouse gas emission takes place. -- 92.226.133.75 17:39, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It gives the total amount of gases in the atmosphere. The exchange rate is not important, since greenhouses gases are well-mixed throughout the atmosphere (which is why measurements taken in antarctica show basically the same picture, only with smaller typical seasonal ups and downs).
