Richard Rappaport painted this portrait of the theatrical director Nina Faso in the spring of 1967 when she was a freshman in the Drama Department of Carnegie Mellon University. Her early career in the theatre was jump-started in 1971 by her involvement with John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz's Godspell. Faso was also instrumental in mounting for Broadway The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the television series The Fable Company. See: www.musicalschwartz.com/nina-faso htm

The handling of the brushwork describing her arms and shoulders makes this one of Rappaport's most sensual portraits.
