Replace image with higher resolution version from National Archives[edit]

Normally I'd go right ahead and replace it, but given the replacement probably needs work, and the image is a featured image and previous image of the day on English Wikipedia, I believe that discussing it first is required.

The proposed replacement is here: https://catalog.archives.gov/id/146763384

The present version image is of lower resolution and is soft in places (for example the stem of the mushroom cloud). I'm not sure why it's soft, perhaps someone edited it but the original version is soft too, the second version is not but the third is soft again.

The replacement image is 3800x3200 and is much sharper. It needs work however: it's not level and needs to be turned slightly, the colour may need correcting (presumably the head of the cloud should be white) and it's slightly scratched.

I personally believe that the scratches are a fair trade for a much sharper image, but it might also be possible to fix it without softening the image. Maybe some wants to take a crack at it?

I'm sharing this on Wikipedia:Graphics Lab and Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history. If you can think of anyone else who would want to comment on this proposal, please share it with them. Kylesenior (talk) 05:53, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here is my rotate and crop: https://i.imgur.com/7oGDjzR.jpg My attempt at colour correction looked awful. Is there a system for uploading temporary images or proposals? Kylesenior (talk) 06:21, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If the image is not a simple increase in resolution, upload it as a new file. From Hill To Shore (talk) 08:33, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
