Source organizational backing[edit]

Contrary to an erroneous caption that was added to this image at one point by someone who was wildly ignorant and confused, this was not produced as part of "ARPANET development". It was produced by Jon Postel as part of the Internet development effort. (Also, by 1982, when this map was produced, the ARPANET had become a production network and was being run by the Defence Communications Agency, not DARPA.) SVG[edit]

While the SVG linked in the description "File:Internet82.svg is a vector version of this file." http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Internet82.svg was designed to represent the logic of the original ( I haven't checked if it does) I'm not sure that it is appropriate in the normal sense where a SVG is considered a version. The original Postel is important more for it's cute simplicity when looking back in hindsight. I would always rather see Postel's drawing than the SVG in almost any case.

Does anyone know where/how a better scan of the original drawing be had. (The jpg almost looks like a Fax copy) Martyvis (talk) 07:58, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've still got the original paper copy (presumably Xeroxed for handout from an original that was produced I know not how) that the JPEG was scanned from, and could re-scan it at higher resolution. ISTR that the paper 'original' was poor quality, though, which would be why it "looks like a Fax copy". Noel (talk) 16:14, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
